New IT rules: Will Facebook and Twitter get banned? What experts say as deadline ends
The notice has been sent to the social media veteran Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. They are accused of violating those guidelines which will come into effect from 26th May. Significantly, on 25 February, the government gave social media three months to follow the new guidelines.
According to the new rule, social media has been classified, so those who have meaningful or important social media will have to appoint three officers who will monitor social media and take action on complaints. In which the Chief Compliance Officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer will be appointed.
According to the new rule, the government will also have to report the appointment of these officers, giving their name and contact address in India, grievance redressal, monitoring of objectionable material etc. But these social media giants have completely ignored the new rules, due to which a notice has been sent to them. In such a big question, if the new rules of the government come into force from May 26, then what will happen to these veterans? Will the government ban them?
What is in the new Statement
To prevent misuse of social media, the government had issued a new guideline in February, according to which a three-level mechanism will be created for monitoring social media. Companies will have to appoint a nodal officer and report the complaint and action every month. Violence will be a category of social media based on language and scene. Since the category of social media will be formed, those who will be meaningful or important social media will have to appoint three officers who will monitor social media and take action on complaints.
